Becoming a Swimming Teacher with Le Mourier

Looking to become a swimming teacher? Check out our STA Swimming Teachers Pathway and the available qualifications that start from 14/16yrs. From Aquatic Helper to full STA Teacher, all our courses are tutored by our team of expereinced STA Aquatic Tutors.

Lifesaving Courses at Le Mourier

Pool Lifeguarding Course (4 days)

The STA Level 2 Award in Pool Lifeguarding qualification has been designed to give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills that are needed to provide constant poolside supervision of a swimming pool and working within the leisure industry.

The STA Pool Lifeguarding qualification is designed to train learners in pool rescue, CPR techniques, first aid and dealing with poolside emergencies in accordance with National Occupational Standards, Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools, British Standard BS EN 15288 Part 2 Safety Requirements for Operations, and the CIMSPA Employer Led Professional Standards – Pool Lifeguard.

Pool Emergency Responder (1 day)

This is not designed to be a lifeguard qualification, but is designed to assist operators of small shallow ‘hotel’ type pools in meeting their legal responsibilities and for anyone who may assist a lifeguard team.

 

The STA Level 2 Award for Pool Emergency Responder qualification is designed to give learners the knowledge, understanding and skills in pool rescue, CPR techniques and first aid competencies in order to deal with poolside emergencies.

Employers may use our Pool Emergency Responder qualification to meet their Health and Safety responsibilities.

Safety Award for Teachers (1 day) - Suitable for School Teachers

The STA Level 2 Award in Safety Award for Teachers qualification is designed to train learners in pool rescue and CPR techniques in order to deal with poolside emergencies in accordance with the National Occupational Standards and Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools and British Standard BS EN 15288 Part 2, Safety Requirements for Operations.

This qualification is for learners who may teach or assist swimming lessons and aquatic activities including school swimming lessons. It is also a great stepping stone into the world of lifesaving, as you can take this course at 14 years old.

All Lifesaving qualifications are awarded by the STA (Safety Training Awards) are regulated by Ofqual in England and endorsed by CIMSPA who are industry leaders in sport and physical activity

First Aid Courses at Le Mourier

First Aid at Work (3 days)

The aim of the STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work qualification is to enable learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills that are required to deal with a range of first aid incidents including: basic life support, anaphylaxis, head and spinal injuries, asthma, bleeds and much more.

This qualification is for learners who have a specific responsibility at work to deliver basic first aid to individuals in a range of emergency first aid situations.

Emergency First Aid at Work (1 day)

The aim of the STA Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is to enable an individual to be able to act as an appointed person to take charge of the first aid arrangements, including looking after the equipment and facilities and calling the Emergency Medical Services when required.

Paediatric First Aid (2 days)

The STA Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid qualification aims to enable learners who work or intend to work in a childcare setting, with the skills, knowledge, understanding and ability to deal with emergency situations.The range of skills covered includes first aid and resuscitation procedures for child and infant casualties. learners will be able to recognise and manage childhood medical conditions, as well as being able to provide emergency treatment until the arrival of the emergency medical services.

 

Emergency Paediatric First Aid (1 day)

The aim of the STA Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work qualification is to enable learners to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills that are required to deal with a range of first aid incidents including: basic life support, anaphylaxis, head and spinal injuries, asthma, bleeds and much more.

Basic Life Support and use of AED (4 hrs)

This qualification is suitable for learners from a variety of industries and employment situations who work within a building where an AED is present and are required to be trained in its use as per the HSE recommendation. It is also suitable for learners who wish to learn an essential lifesaving skill for personal interest and development.

All First Aid qualifications are awarded by the STA (Safety Training Awards), Regulated by Ofqual in England and endorsed by CIMSPA who are industry leaders in sport and physical activity

Leisure Industry Courses at Le Mourier

Pool Plant Operations (3 Days)

The objective of the STA Level 3 Award in Pool Plant Operations qualification is to enable learners to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required to ensure the safety of swimmers, users, operators and other persons. The qualification provides the theory behind pool plant operations and maintenance, as well as providing learners with information on best practice principles and information on health, safety and legal responsibilities.

This qualification is for people who have a specific responsibility for pool plant operations, maintaining plant rooms, ensuring safe bather conditions and water testing.

Swimming Pool Water Treatment (4 hrs)

The STA Level 2 Award in Swimming Pool Water Treatment is designed to enable learners to understand the basic principles of the treatment of swimming pool water. To provide learners with the knowledge and skills to competently test water and maintain safe bathing conditions.

Swimming Pool Water Testing (4 hrs)

The STA Level 2 Award in Swimming Pool Water Testing is designed to provide the basic information needed and the skills necessary to competently test swimming pool and spa water and to provide a basic understanding of the outcomes of those tests. To equip learners with the skills and theoretical knowledge to competently test swimming pool and spa water and a basic understanding of what the results indicate.

Safe Moving and Handling (7 hrs)

This STA Level 2 qualification is suitable for learners from a variety of industries and employment situations who work within a building where an AED is present and are required to be trained in its use as per the HSE recommendation. It is also suitable for learners who wish to learn an essential lifesaving skill for personal interest and development.

Fire Marshall Training (7 hrs)

This is STA Level 2 award is designed for supervisors, managers, or anyone with a specific responsibility for workplace fire safety, providing them with a foundation of fire safety knowledge. Once qualified, it will enable the holder to perform the role of fire marshal / fire warden, as well as helping to increase general fire safety awareness in the workplace.

Becoming a Swimming Teacher with Le Mourier

Le Mourier Junior Teacher Programme (14yrs+)

Aspiring Teachers can first join Le Mourier’s Junior Teaching Programme. The programme – commencing from 14 years of age – firstly looks to go through the STA Aquatic Helper Certificate.

The Aquatic Helper forms an initial steppingstone on to the aquatic pathway, allowing learners to gain insight into swimming teaching by becoming a helper within the swimming lesson environment.

While taking part in regular theory sessions, students will also assist in our mainstream swimming lessons alongside one of our fully qualified team of career swimming teachers

STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming (16yrs+)

Once 16 years of age, candidates can undertake the STA Award In Teaching Swimming.

The STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming aims to produce teachers that can teach up to 12 non-swimmers through to improver participants and deliver the STAnley Series of awards up to the Octopus and Goldfish Series of STA’sInternational Learn to Swim Programme.

This qualification is for learners who wish to work with children and adults, helping them to develop, both as swimmers and individuals in the aquatic environment. No experience of working with children or teaching swimming lessons is required prior to undertaking this qualification.

STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming (16yrs+)

Having partaken in the STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming, the next step is the STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming.

The STA Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Swimming (Or “Full Teachers”) qualifies learners to teach non-swimmers through to advanced participants.

As a swimming teacher, you would be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a series of progressive and fun swimming lessons teaching non-swimmer through to advanced participants. You will be able to teach a range of aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence, swimming strokes, water safety and competitive starts and turns. You would be responsible for ensuring the lesson area and appropriate equipment is safe and promoted good teaching and learning.
